Rabbit, Rabbit! Happy March 1st! Ahhh, the month that hits the ‘refresh’ button, 31 days of promised renewal, and the excitement of the pending Spring season. There is an undeniable stirring in the air, everyone feeling maxed out on their winter hibernation, and ready to transition out of the cold and wintery days and into some warmer sunny weather. Seattle’s weather has been extra temperamental this year; we’ve gotten way more snow than usual, and it has been bitingly coldddddd the past few weeks. We’ve definitely had the ever-present beautiful sunsets and stunning views, but I think I can speak for all of us Pacific Northwesters  when I say we are ready to warm up!

IMG_6415Two days ago, the weather was feeling… shall I say, schizophrenic? In a matter of 45 minutes, the weather went from pouring rain to marble-sized hail, and then I blinked my eyes and it was dumping snow with intense wind, followed by thunder and lightning. WHAT?! Strangest weather pattern I’ve ever experienced. The skies just could not make up their minds!

I procrastinated on all my homework took full advantage of this bizarre weather, and decided to get ahead on my Spring cleaning and organizing. I don’t usually get these cleaning bugs, but when it hits, you must take advantage. So, I set myself to work.

First things first, my kitchen just looked cluttered. Even when it was clean, there was something that seemed untidy about it. So I decided to ‘hide’ all the clutter under my sink by sewing a curtain to hang under it. {Note: I have never sewed anything, so there was a lot of time spent on the phone with mom getting thorough instructions. ‘Can you tell me for the fourth time, do I fold the hem over two times or three?!’ Thanks Mom!}

Ta-dah! Everything tucked in neatly behind my most favorite print. Next up: storage. I couldn’t stand having my baking supplies, oatmeal and other cabinet randomness just thrown into the cabinet together. Everything was stored in their original boxes and plastic bags, which get ripped and sticky over time. Ugh. So, I decided to transfer EVERYTHING into clean, fresh, clear mason jars. Ahhhhhh, soooo satisfying. If you haven’t done this, do yourself a favor and just do it. It looks so pleasant, aaaaaaaand, glass storage is safer than plastic storage. Bonus: the jars are airtight, so no more stale crackers!

Next up: tackling the annoyances that come with providing ourselves and guests with a place to sit ;)….washing the couch cushion covers. This is one of those super dreaded tasks that just plain sucks to do. But! They gather so much dust and ‘life’, and there is no better time to get ’em all livened up than during our SPRING cleaning party! (Come on guys, I’m trying to make this enjoyable).  Soooo, I grabbed all the cushion covers, and even threw in my shower curtain, and washed the past year out of them.

Of course this little guy couldn’t wait to get his dirty little paws all over them again. Such a stinker!

Last but not least, and I changed my mind, this is way more annoying than washing couch cushions… deep cleaning the bathroom.

FullSizeRender-2It’s one of those tasks that’s easy to run away from by just doing a spot clean here and there once a week. But, at some point, you just gotta suck it up, get in there, and get dirty. To my own dismay, this past week was that time. So, I grabbed my big basket of cleaning supplies, put on a tank and some crappy shorts and went to town… bleach, comet, sponge, hands and knees, the whole nine yards. Not the best 45 minutes of my life, but such.a.good.feeling. when it’s over and done with.

You know what they say: A clean house is a happy house! Ok, that was my best attempt at helping you feel motivated to get your house in tip top shape! Did it work?! If you are stuck inside because of cold weather, feel like getting your house in order or just need to un-winterize your home, I hope you feel inspired to do so. Happy cleaning, happy March and happy {almost} Spring!

Much love from,

Lael and the boys
